Turneul “Barcelona Open” a ajuns anul acesta la ediţia cu numărul 66.

ATP 500 Series “Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell”, denumirea oficială actuală a turneului se dispută pe zgură, la “Real Club de Tenis Barcelona 1899”, o facilitate cu 18 terenuri, centralul având 8.400 de locuri.

Deţinătorii titlurilor sunt Rafael Nadal la simplu şi perechea Florin Mergea / Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi (Pakistan) la dublu. Rafael Nadal este cap de serie 1 la ediţia actuală, iar din echipa campioană la dublu este prezent doar Aisam Qureshi, care pentru acest turneu s-a reunit cu mai vechiul lui partener, Jean-Julien Rojer, din cauză că Horia Tecău este accidentat.

Turneul a mai avut campioni români: Ilie Năstase – în 1973 şi 1974, finalist în 1978 – la simplu şi acelaşi Ilie Năstase în 1978 (/ Tom Okker) şi Andrei Pavel (/ Alexander Waske) în 2007 şi Ilie Năstase finalist în 1972 (/Frew McMillan). Finalele ediţiilor, la sfârşitul ştirii.

Ca să revenim la Rafael Nadal, el câştiga anul trecut titlul cu numărul 10, la fel ca la Monte Carlo şi Roland Garros, un triplu record în ce priveşte cele mai multe titluri la acelaşi turneu.
Record pe care şi l-a autodepăşit săptămâna trecută cu al 11-lea titlu la Monte Carlo. Clasamentul la acest capitol, mai jos.

Rafael Nadal se luptă cu propriile recorduri, de exemplu acela – activ – al celor 14 victorii consecutive pe zgură cu 36 de seturi câştigate din 36, încearcă să-şi păstreze locul 1 în clasamentul ATP, pe care astăzi îl ocupă pentru a 171-a săptămână, având cu 100 de puncte mai mult decât Roger Federer. Pentru aceasta, la fel ca săptămâna trecută are nevoie să câştige turneul şi astfel să recupereze cele 500 de puncte ce i-au ieşit astăzi din linia de clasament (finalistul primeşte doar 300 de puncte).
