Începând de mâine se va disputa primul turneu Masters 1000 – care se va juca pe zgură – al sezonului, “Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters”.

Deşi de aceeaşi categorie, punctele obţinute aici nu sunt obligatorii pentru liniile de clasament ale jucătorilor – cum este cazul celorlalte 8 turnee Masters 1000, alături de cele 4 de Mare Şlem – ele fiind luate în calcul, eventual, la rubrica “cele mai bune alte 6 rezultate”.

Turneul îşi dispută anul acesta – la Monte Carlo Country Club, care în ciuda numelui este situat în satul Roquebrune-Cap-Martin din Franţa, la graniţa cu Principatul – cea de-a 113-a ediţie.
La sfârşitul ştirii, finalele ediţiilor din Era Open cu Ilie Năstase triplu campion la simplu, în ediţii consecutive 1971-1973, finalist în 1974 şi triplu campion la dublu: în 1971, alături de Ion Ţiriac, 1973 (/ Juan Gisbert), 1979 (/ Raul Ramirez) şi finalist în 1978 (/ Jaime Fillol).

În 1919, campion la simplu a fost Nicolae Mişu.

Recordmenul absolut al titlurilor câştigate aici, 11 la număr – inclusiv cel de anul trecutRafael Nadal – este prezent anul acesta, cap de serie 2.
Deţinătorii titlului la dublu, Bob şi Mike Bryan nu sunt prezenţi.

Tablourile de simplu şi dublu au fost trase la sorţi, singurul jucător român prezent fiind Horia Tecău, alături de partenerul lui tradiţional.
