WTA Roma 2019: Astăzi joacă Begu / Buzărnescu şi reintră Serena Williams. Câteva date despre turneu. Analiză succintă a tabloului.

Săptămâna aceasta se dispută “Internazionali BNL d’Italia”, al doilea turneu de categoria Premier 5 al sezonului, din cele 5 care sunt programate, după cel de la Dubai, următoarele fiind Toronto (5-11 august), Cincinnati (12-18 august) şi Wuhan (22-28 septembrie). 

Turneul se dispută pe zgură, în aer liber, fiind găzduit de legendarul complex “Foro Italico”, ale cărui 3 terenuri principale – “Campo Centrale”, “Supertennis Arena” şi “Stadio Pietrangeli” – au capacităţi de 10.400, respectiv 3.500 de locuri.

Turneul – atât la masculin, cât şi la feminin – este la cea de-a 76-a ediţie.
La sfârşitul ştirii, finalele din Era Open, cu Virginia Ruzici, vicecampioană în 1978, 1980, 1981 şi Simona Halep, vicecampioană în 2017 şi 2018 – la simplu.
La dublu, Virginia Ruzici a fost de două ori campioană: în 1978 (/ Mima Jausovec) şi 1983 (/ Virginia Wade) şi de 3 ori vicecampioană: în 1976 alături de Mariana Simionescu, în 1981 (/ Chris Evert Lloyd) şi 1984 (/ Kathleen Horvath).
Irina Spîrlea a fost campioană în 1996 ( / Arantxa Sánchez Vicario), iar regretata Florenţa Mihai a fost finalistă în 1978 (/ Betsy Nagelsen).

Câştigătoarea ultimelor două ediţiiElina Svitolina – este prezentă, cap de serie 5, iar campioanele la dublu de anul trecut Ashleigh Barty / Demi Schuurs vor juca în echipe diferite, Barty cu Azarenka şi Schuurs cu Grönefeld [8].
